Jason Langa
Jason Langa is a contemporary figurative painter and printmaker whose work delves into the emotional and psychological complexities of human experience, memory, and identity. Born and based in Johannesburg, Langa’s practice is deeply influenced by his surroundings and the rich cultural landscape of its creative scene. His work captures fleeting moments of connection, introspection, and transformation, often through the dynamic interplay of colour, form, and the human figure.
Langa’s artistic approach is rooted in a colourist style, influenced by Impressionism, which aims to evoke the emotional resonance of his subjects. He is particularly interested in exploring the relationship between individuals and their environments, examining how we shape and are shaped by the spaces we inhabit. Through his paintings and prints, Langa captures the delicate balance between presence and absence, as well as the tension between personal experiences and collective memory.
An alumni of Artist Proof Studio, Langa has participated in significant artistic development programs, such as the RMB Talent Unlocked mentorship program. His work has been exhibited at prominent galleries, including Ellis House and The Viewing Room. He is also currently taking part in the Converse All Stars program, Class of 2025, where he continues to develop his artistic practice and engage with creative communities.
Langa’s art extends beyond visual representation; it is an ongoing reflection on human connection, the passage of time, and the transformative power of memory. Through his evocative imagery, he invites viewers to reflect on the transient moments that shape our understanding of self, community, and the world around us.
